1. Who are we?
We are an organisation set up to provide volunteer drivers who use their own cars to transport cancer patients to their hospital and daycare appointments.
2. Who can use us?
Anyone who meets ALL the following criteria;
•You must be a cancer patient
•You must live within the NHS Lanarkshire area
•You must be able to get in and out of a normal car without any assitance from our drivers as they are not trianed in manual handling. (If you can provide your own escort to help with this we may still be able to take you.)
•You must be unable to provide suitable transport for yourself. For example, if you normally can drive yourself but are unfit at the moment or have been advised by your doctor not to drive meantime, then we are happy to help. But, if you have a family member or friend who is able to take you without having to take a lot of time off work, then you should not use the service and that will leave us free to take someone who really does need our help.
3. What is the charge for using the service?
The service is provided free to those who need us. If, after using the service, you feel you would like to make a donation to help us keep running, we will be delighted to receive it. Go to Donations page for more information.
4. How is the service funded?
We receive grants which currently [2009-10] total around £50,000 from NHS Lanarkshire and North and South Lanarkshire Councils. The remaining £250,000 needed to keep us going each year is raised by donations, sponsored events and occasional grants from charitable trusts etc.
5. How are we managed?
The Trust is goverened by a group of volunteer Trusteess - currently there are eleven. The office is staffed by one full-time and three part-time paid coordinators and a group of seven volunteers.
6. How can you help the Trust?
There are several ways in which you can support the Trust:
a) Become a volunteer driver
b) Become a 'Friend of LCCT' by paying an annual subscription
c) Make a one-off donation
d) If you are a tax payer you can allow us to claim Gift Aid on any donations you
make
e) You could volunteer to look after a few of our collecting cans in your area -
change them over every few weeks, count the cash & pay it into the bank
f) You could offer to assist at some of our fund raising events
